Engaged: Lisa + Mike
A couple weeks ago, Jason and I met up with Lisa and Mike at Cascades Park in Jackson to get some gorgeous engagement images around sunset. We will be photographing their wedding in June 2013 and looking forward to working with them over the next year. I think that is what I love most about wedding photography, is the relationships that we get to build with our clients. Our hope of course is that we will continue to photograph their life events as the years pass. It is very exciting to see how families grow and change as the years go on.
Engaged: Renee + Chris
Last Saturday, we got to hang out with Renee and Chris (and future maid of honor, Sara) for an engagement session. I don’t know if it is just luck or what but we always seem to get really awesome, fun couples who are really into taking pictures that are a little different and unique to them and have fun while doing it! The fall colors were so beautiful in these images! I can’t wait till their wedding next fall to capture the colors with all the wedding attire on!
So if you think that they are cute, leave them a little comment below and give them some congratulations if you haven’t already yet.
Engagement Products
Every wonder what else you can do with pictures from your engagement session besides just getting a few prints? For those of you that fall in love with all of your images but don’t have the place to put them all over your house how about place them in a book! We offer both engagement albums and custom guestbooks that can be filled with images from your session to share with all your friends and family.
The guestbook has a special twist as well! Each page has a different question for your guests to answer on the day of your wedding for you to read later and have a keepsake from your wedding day to look back on.
Another product that we offer is custom Save the Dates and Wedding Invitations that feature an image or two from your engagement session! All of these are on a pearly shimmery card stock that really add something special to the overall design for your wedding. Even the envelopes are pearl so they definitely stand out in the mail and are sure to be noticed. We custom make these for every bride and groom so they can be exactly what you want them to be and match any theme or personality that you are wanting for your wedding style.

Engaged: Brittnii + Dan
Brittnii and Dan are so dang cute. We met at Cascades in Jackson for their engagement session this past week. It was a beautiful day, a little windy, but gorgeous sunlight. I love the glow that you can get sometimes from the sunlight through the trees. We even hiked up one of those huge hills next to the falls to find a secluded cozy spot without all the people in the park bothering us.
They are getting married in a small church in Grass Lake with a reception here in Jackson at the beginning of August. Super excited to see all the details from their day.
In the last post, I was talking about how important I believe it is to do an engagement session with your photographer for several reasons. The last post was about the benefits for the bride and groom. See more on this HERE. I want to now talk about why I like to do them. I like to get to know my couple prior to the wedding day when possible. (And them, me.) I get a feel of how they are together and I get a better peak into their personalities so on the day of the wedding, I can be prepared with some things that I know is to their liking. They also get to know me better (especially the groom because sometimes I have limited contact with him prior as I speak with the bride most times.). This way the day of the wedding, they don’t have this “stranger” hovering over them with this huge camera making them feel uncomfortable. On the wedding day, both Jason and I feel like we are a part of the group. We have parents at the end hugging us and shaking hands, members from the bridal party doing the same. The Wedding Day is not ‘work’ for us. We truly enjoy ourselves documenting the memories that are taking place. (Yes, I know that I am lucky to have found a job that I truly love. It is all part of God’s plan, I’m sure, because I never once asked or thought this is where I would be in my life someday.)
I also like to get to know the couple as people and not just the date in my calendar. My hope is that all of my brides regard me as a friend the day of the wedding and afterwards. I love to hear about when the first baby is on the way, when they get a new job, buya house, etc. Now most of this of course occurs on Facebook and I don’t really hang out with many of the brides afterward in person, but I really am interested in their lives as they grow. We would love to be their lifetime photographers as they grow in life whenever possible.
And now, time for Brittnii and Dan’s engagement sneak peak.
Remember to tell them how much you love them down at the bottom in the comments!
Engaged: Jennifer + Ryan
Jenn and Ryan were our second engagement session on Saturday so after leaving downtown, we hurried over to Ella Sharp park to meet with them. On their way down to meet us, Jenn had car trouble and it basically died right on the side of the road. Luckily, Ryan was driving separate because they were planning on dropping her car off to get looked at. But it turns out, her car was just too far gone so after our engagement shoot it sounded like she was going to be out car shopping to replace the old one. Now despite all this, we all had a great time during the session. In fact, the car dying was a running joke during the whole thing.
While I know that the morning was stressful for them. I believe that they had a great time with us getting their engagement captured in a beautiful setting. I really do believe that taking time to have an engagement session has so many benefits to the bride and groom as well as the photographer. I really think that this is something fun for the bride and groom to do together during all the stress of planning a wedding. It isn’t about the budget or the color, or the flowers. It is about the two of them.
You have to remember that you aren’t just having a wedding you are starting a marriage and you can never lose focus of that. I think it can at times be set onto the back burner with all the other things going on but it really shouldn’t. A bride and groom also get to work closely with their photographer for a time and make sure that their fit works. You are going to interacting with your photographer a lot the day of the wedding and I would hope in the days leading up to the wedding and following it. (More on this in the next post.)
For now, I will let you get onto viewing Jenn and Ryan’s sneak peak. Until next time….
Oh, and don’t forget to tell them how much you love them down at the bottom in the comments.
Engaged: Brittany + Derrick
I love shooting downtown. There is so much down there, that you can have such awesome unique looks just by turning the corner. We started out at the train station and then moved to a few other choices locations for Brittany and Derrick’s pictures. I met them this January after the Gene Davis’ Bridal show through a fellow vendor “Leave It To Us” Wedding Planners. I have been hearing really awesome details that are going to be taking place on Brittany and Derrick’s Wedding Day in July. I truly cannot wait until we shoot this wedding and share it with all of you. It is going to be straight out a FairyTale book, a Princess Wedding.
Ok well, I don’t want to spoil it so you will just have to wait until then for more info and be able to see how awesome it all will be. I am super excited to be working with Heather and Beth from Leave It To Us that day, it is going to make the whole day a breeze!
Brittany has had such goodideas for how she wants the wedding set up and I’m excited to see it all come together. For now though, you will just have to settle for seeing some awesome images from their engagement shoot
Remember to leave them some comments down underneath the pictures! And as always stay tuned for more FairyTales to come.
